Professional Development Day 2000

PD17AP. Organized by CGOA Professional Development Chairperson Kathleen Power Johnson.

This one day workshop was a wonderful opportunity for CGOA professionals and aspiring professionals, especially designers and teachers, to come together to share their experiences and support. This all-day event began with a 2-hour presentation by Jenny King, the well-known Australian crochet designer, teacher and entrepreneur. Jenny's talk was illustrated with a colorful slide show documenting her fascinating career that has revolutionized crochet in Australia.

Later in the morning, Jenny lead a round table discussion called "Breaking into the Crochet Business". This panel of designers and teachers had a wealth of ideas for getting your foot into new doors. Lunch was a time for networking, for mentors and "mentorees" to get together, plus a short presentation concerning the Mentoring Program.

The afternoon was devoted to three rotations of breakout sessions. There was a choice of five breakout sessions: two on designing, two on teaching and one on operating a business. Topics included pattern testing/sample crocheting (for both designers and pattern testers), developing designs for teaching, marketing crochet designs, structuring your business, good record keeping and being an effective crochet teacher.

Thursday, August 17, 2000: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Lunch Menu: Beef Stroganoff presented in puff pastry with a side of parslied egg pasta, house salad with choice of dressing, coffee, decaffeinated coffee, herbal tea, iced tea, or milk and dessert.
