Speed Crochet Time Trial
| A contest to determine the fastest crocheter in the United States and in the United Kingdom is being organized, with the goal of having the fastest time recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Pauline Turner organized the time trial held at Chain Link 2001. All crocheters who wished to participate were allowed to prepare a foundation chain of 20 stitches and then a first row of 19 double crochets plus a turning chain. An I hook and worsted weight yarn was used. Hooks flew as the crocheters had 3 minutes to crochet as many double crochets as they could. The winner was determined by a point system: a double crochet counted as 4 points and a turning chain as 3 points. Lily Chin won the Time Trial at Chain Link 2001 with 339 points, edging out her nearest competitor by 24 points, the equivalent of only 6 double crochets! |
