Conference Report

The '96 Chain Link Crochet Conference sponsored by the Crochet Guild offered many crocheters an opportunity to acquire new skills and crochet techniques through a wide variety of exciting classes taught by inspiring, talented instructors. Conference participants also shared information informally with others who share their love of the art of crochet.

The '96 Chain Link vendor marketplace offered participants a preview of the newest fiber materials, books, tools, and many other crochet-related items. The Fashion Show was a glamorous display of garments that demonstrated the variety and beauty of crochet apparel and accessories. The Juried Exhibit again showcased some of the very finest crochet-related fiber art. The exhibit was videotaped by Aleene's Creative Living TV show for future viewing. Gwen Blakley Kinsler received a special award for her contributions to CGOA.

As part of a continuing tradition, '96 Chain Link participants contributed hundreds of crocheted squares for afghans for Warm Up America!, and also contributed hats, mittens, scarves and other crocheted items for the national Caps for Kids program. Also at the '96 Chain Link Conference, the CGOA announced its plans to support the Precious Pals program which helps ensure that police officers have plenty of stuffed animals to give to children who have just been involved in a crisis situation.
