Chain Link '98: Extras for Members Only

Opening Day Free Classes

The Crochet Guild of America offered two free classes on Opening Day Afternoon for CGOA members only.

Floral Fantasy: Thursday, August 13, Noon to 2 PM

CGOA Vice President Nancy Brown taught how to make a variety of flowers, leaves, buds, twigs and sprigs for appliqué and embellishment in this "make it - take it" class. Creations could be used to dress up sweaters, vests, hats or other items of apparel. Patterns and materials were provided at no charge.

Oops! That Was A Learning Experience:
Thursday, August 13, 2 to 4 PM

CGOA Newsletter Columnist Mary Rhodes (McGoveran) helped participants figure out how to crochet garments that really work and that can be worn with pride. Students were invited to bring either finished or unfinished projects that didn't meet their expectations to the class for sharing and learning. Mary talked about choosing color combinations and appropriate yarns before starting to stitch so that a satisfying finished product is guaranteed.

Annual Business Meeting (members only)

Friday, August 14, 7 - 10 PM

The Annual Business Meeting for CGOA members was held on Friday evening, August 14, from 7 PM to 10 PM, sponsored by Herrschners, Inc. Needlecraft Catalog. The Executive Board and Committee Chairpersons reported on what they have been doing on behalf of CGOA members to build our organization and to promote crochet. Representatives from local CGOA chapters reported on their activities, and we held elections for the following officers and chairpersons: Secretary, Industry Liaison, International Liaison, Librarian, Chapter Development, and Pattern Editor.

Faculty Project Fair

The Chain Link '98 Faculty displayed their class projects and gave a short description of their classes, to give an idea of what others were learning at the conference. The Faculty Project Fair was held at the beginning of the for-members-only Annual Business Meeting of CGOA.
