The Crochet Guild of America was proud to have noted designer Rick Mondragon as the instructor in this special 15-hour crochet fashion design workshop.
POST601C Crochet Inspirations for Signature Design. Rick Mondragon. Crochet can be fashionable and creative. We all like to feel special and look special. Rick showed how to create a piece that is for you... from you. Rick showed different garments that he's made along with the inspirations that brought them about. Students learned how to take an idea into different directions and then focus on their desired result. They were inspired to take a "look" and make it their own. Through color, design and self analysis, they began a sample garment.
For those who took Lily Chin's "The Elements of Design" Post Conference at Chain Link '97, this class differed in that the class did not use tape measures for body measurements. Only after the students designed a silhouette and created a gauge swatch did they use numbers. Students created a sloper of their body, then created a pattern from their sloper. Taking inspiration from their materials, they explored ideas for an original design. Students also created a miniature silhouette of their body so they were able to play with proportion and scale.
(15 hours: Sunday EVE, Monday AM & PM, Tuesday AM & PM)
Due to popular demand, the Craft Yarn Council of America and CGOA offered TWO sessions of CYCA's Certified Crochet Instructor Program as Chain Link '98 Post Conference workshops.
POST602C Certified Crochet Instructor Program. Arnetta Kenney. Becoming a Certified Crochet Instructor provides course participants with the opportunity to share their knowledge and skills with others. In addition, there are many direct and indirect rewards, including: in-depth knowledge of the terms, techniques and design guidelines of crocheting; better understanding of pattern instructions; increased confidence in public speaking and communication skills; and meeting new friends. The workshop included: reinforcement of basic and advanced crocheting skills, fiber and yarn selection, color and design coordination, gauge and body measurements, and project creations.
Workshop participants were required to make a commitment to (1) attend the full workshop and (2) dedicate a minimum of 25 hours in their community as a Craft Yarn Council Certified Instructor within a six-month time frame. This could be accomplished by teaching the basic skills to beginners either individually or in small groups with the goal of assisting them in completing a small, simple project.
