Lily Chin, New York City, NY

Named a "Master Knitter of the 90's" by Vogue Knitting, this New York City native has been involved in some aspect of the fashion industry since age 13. Lily designs for magazines and yarn companies and does fabric development and knitdowns for Seventh Avenue, from the Gap to Isaac Mizrahi. She writes the "On Designing" column for Knitter's and the annual "Focus on Fibers" report for Knit 'N Style. Her workshops, lectures, and seminars on hand and machine knitting and crochet are conducted throughout the U.S. and Canada. In early '94, Lily served as international fashion and design consultant to the Indonesian Textile Association in Bali and Malaysian manufacturing concerns in Kuala Lumpur. She designs many things under the Vanna White name, including afghans for both those books. In 1999, Lily's first book on colorful crocheted afghans will be released by Oxmoor House. Being a token "young person who knits and crochets," she has been featured and cited in several newspaper articles, including in the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, Newsday, the Chicago Tribune, and the New York Daily News for bashing the "granny" image of handcrafts.
