A FULL CIRCLE MOMENT - CELEBRATING CGOA WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

As the Past Presidents’ Committee of CGOA was getting underway to celebrate the Twentieth Anniversary of CGOA, a committee consisting of charter CGOA members was also planning a big party to celebrate the founding of the first chapter of CGOA, The Northern IL Chapter (NIC)

The committee is made up of three remaining members who attended the very first meeting back in June 1994. Barbara Collister is the Chairperson.  Leading up to the celebration, Barbara said, “We are excited about what we have in store for the chapter as a celebration and recognition of twenty years as a proud chapter of CGOA! Our first meeting of the NIC was held in a northwest suburb of Chicago. Today they meet at the library in Rolling Meadows where it all started for CGOA in August 1994. "

Please take a few minutes to view the videos of our chapter’s anniversary celebration.

CGOA 20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION WAS TERRIFIC!

(by Gwen Blakley Kinsler, 20th Anniversary Committee Member)

As the Founder, I find it hard to believe that in a flash, of threads, stitches, and most of all friends, so many years have passed! Where did the time go? We had so much fun in 2014 celebrating 20 years of CGOA.  We honored all our members past and present who have given so much to our beloved organization.

A committee made up of Past Presidents, Gwen Blakley Kinsler, Pam Oddi, Karen Klemp, Tosca Mark, Marty Miller and Amy Shelton (Committee Chair), formed to plan activities for this important occasion. We decided to use the official colors for a 20th anniversary: green, white and platinum. Our theme was Proud Past, Brilliant Future. And our 20th Anniversary Logo Design Contest resulted in the logo you see here, created by CGOA Member Donna Wolfe. Donna received a $250 award from contest sponsor Crochetville. Last year we saw it on pins, bags, banners and many other places - helping us spread the word far and near that CGOA is alive and well after 20 years!

During the 2014 Conference we celebrated with a Memory Wall, featuring pictures and mementos from Conferences of the past 20 years.  It was a visual walk down memory lane, and many members gathered by the wall to reminisce.   The annual Crochet Design Competition featured a special Anniversary category, and many members submitted Anniversary-themed work for judging.

Past Presidents led FREE anniversary-themed Make-and-Takes throughout the Conference, and we Toasted to Twenty during our Annual Business Meeting.

Everyone in attendance agreed that the 20th Anniversary Conference was a fitting tribute to our Proud Past.  And our membership is ready and excited to head into our Brilliant Future

SPECIAL EVENTS PLANNED TO CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF CGOA

(by Gwen Blakley Kinsler, 20th Anniversary Committee Member)

The 20th Anniversary Celebration Committee has planned a sensational event chock-full of crochet-pride which will kick off the celebration at our annual conference in Manchester, NH, July 23-27 with a Cake and Champagne Reception on Thursday evening. Our new logo will be displayed on a delicious cake for all to enjoy.

Each Past President has taken on responsibility for various celebration activities. Pam Oddi came up with our wonderful tag line, Proud Past, Brilliant Future! Amy Shelton, Chair of the committee has stressed, “The celebration will reach out to all members whether they are able to attend the conference or not. Special incentives and surprises are in store for all!” The CGOA Cyber Chapter will host a Crochet-Along with a project designed by Renee Rogers. Amy has also designed a post card with the new logo that will be available for local yarn stores to print as a way to get the word out about the anniversary of CGOA with suggestions as to how the store might also celebrate!

Gwen Blakley Kinsler created the Logo Design Contest and has taken care of PR. Articles about our 20th anniversary will soon be appearing in Talking Crochet eNews, Interweave Crochet, Crochet Savvy Magazine, Vogue Crochet, and Yarn Market News. Be watching and show these CGOA highlights to your chapter friends. She has also worked with Design Contest Chair, Doris Chan, to add a special category this year: designs that interpret the proud history of CGOA.

Marty Miller is organizing some of the Past Presidents and other designers to offer free “make it-take it” projects during the conference.

Karen Klemp is promoting a contest in which the local CGOA chapters get involved to design a crocheted birthday cake! There will be prizes for the winning design, but all the cakes will be on display in the Marketplace and will be used as centerpieces at our Banquet/Fashion Show. Look for details in the Chapter newsletter.

The Commemorative Hook Committee is especially excited by this year’s choice of hook from Sharky’s Crochet Hooks because the official 20th Anniversary color, emerald green, has been incorporated into it along with a bonus charm that hangs from the head. Registered participants will be able to order this special hook. Commemorative pins and logo wear will also be available to purchase both at the conference and in a CGOA store at Café press.
