March is National Crochet Month
Our members celebrated in a host of ways during 2013 which they shared on the CGOA Blog "CGOANow" and on the CGOA Facebook page. There were "tours through crochet country" which featured crochet designers, there were opportunities to share recent crochet teaching experiences (and win a free CGOA membership!) and there was a place to simply share what you did personally to celebrate the month (and win a copy of Erika Knight's Simple Crochet). See all 115 personal celebration entries here!
Can't wait for next March, when we can celebrate again? Why wait?
We can celebrate crochet all year long!
March 16-22, 1998 was declared National Crochet Week by
CGOA. Pam Oddi was President of our organization at the time. A flyer was
included in the Chain Link newsletter with ideas for all members on ways to
celebrate crochet during the week.
In 1999, Pam designed a bookmark with the design, "I heart Crochet” in filet crochet. The
copyright-free pattern instructions were included in the Chain Link newsletter
for several years for all members, and American School of Needlework helped spread the word bout
National Crochet Week and CGOA by distributing a copy of the bookmark pattern
to all who ordered from their latest catalog.
In March 2000, with
so much to celebrate, National Crochet Week became National Crochet Month!
To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of CGOA in 2009, Gwen Blakley Kinsler
designed a CGOA badge in tapestry bead-crochet. The pattern was made available
for free on the CGOA website for members to use as a way to show their CGOA
