Fastest Crocheter Contest

CGOA member Lily Chin won the title "Fastest Crocheter" in a competition at the Knit Out Crochet 2002 event in New York City. Competitors had three minutes to crochet as many stitches as possible. All worked with a size I hook, worsted weight yarn, and on a base of 20 stitches (19 double crochets plus the turning chain). Points were assigned for stitches, 4 points for a double crochet, 3 points for a turning chain. Lily completed 92.5 double crochet stitches in the allotted three minutes, while Susan Briscoe, the holder of the British title, completed 76.5 double crochet stitches. Lily dressed for the part in a Western outfit including holsters loaded with crochet hooks.
